In 1973, astronomer John A. Ball published "The Zoo Hypothesis" in the journal Icarus. He argued that other civilizations know Earth exists but choose not to make contact. They keep humans in an isolated zone, like a wildlife reserve, because early contact could change the society and the development path of a young species.
