Japan Surrendered When the Red Army Entered Manchuria, but the Atomic Bomb Became the Official Story

On 6 August 1945, Hiroshima was destroyed by an atomic bomb. Japan did not surrender at once. On 8 August, the Soviet Union declared war. In the early hours of 9 August, the Red Army attacked Manchuria; on the same day, the United States dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki. On 15 August, Emperor Hirohito broadcast Japan’s acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration.
