George Gorman: 27 Minutes Chasing a UFO and the Explanation Changed to a Balloon

On the night of 1 October 1948, Lieutenant George F. Gorman flew his P-51 Mustang back toward Hector Airport in Fargo, North Dakota. The sky was clear, the football stadium below was lit, and the control tower knew of only two aircraft in the area. As Gorman prepared to land, a white light appeared to his right.

The light had no wings, no tail, no sound, and no blinking aircraft signal. Gorman accelerated to close in. It moved faster than the P-51, changed direction, came straight at his aircraft, and then climbed almost vertically. He chased it for 27 minutes and reached about 14,000 feet before the object disappeared.
