Die Glocke: The Bell Rumoured to Be Nazi Germany's Last Secret Weapon

At the end of the Second World War, Soviet and American forces rolled into Germany and opened up its mines, underground factories, and SS sites. What they found went well beyond paperwork: V-2 rockets, jet engines, laboratories, production lines moved below ground, and thousands of prisoners forced to work inside them. Hans Kammler stood inside this network of works as the SS officer responsible for special construction projects and for moving weapons production into the tunnels. The Die Glocke story steps out of that same real ground.

Out of that real ground grows the story called Die Glocke, German for "The Bell". In 1944 and 1945, the telling says, an SS science group stood a bell-shaped device inside an underground site in Silesia, a region that now lies in Poland. The device held two cylinders turning in opposite directions, a purple or red liquid, heavy electrical cables, and a thick metal shell. When it ran, people and animals nearby sickened or died, plants withered, and materials changed state. Storytellers join those details into one conclusion: Nazi Germany was testing an unknown energy source, an antigravity device, or a way to act on time.
