Tax Havens Are a Hidden Network That Lets Assets Change Names and Cross Borders

In 2016, the Panama Papers released 11.5 million files from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca. The files showed thousands of companies registered in low-tax jurisdictions, with nominee directors, mailing addresses, and accounts in other countries. The assets did not need to leave a building or factory. Only the legal name of the owner changed.
