Skull and Bones: The Secret Society Built to Select American Power

At 64 High Street in New Haven stands a windowless stone building that Yale students call the Tomb. Inside, Skull and Bones meets away from public view. Its emblem shows a skull, crossed bones, and the number 322. Each year, a small group of seniors is chosen to enter. They do not simply join a campus club. They enter a network with a name, property, rituals, and alumni who later appear in government, intelligence, banking, media, and universities.

That is where the largest Skull and Bones rumor begins. The society does not need to issue public orders to the White House. It only needs to identify people who may rise, bind them to one another through secrecy while they are young, and let them meet again inside important institutions. If that network lasts long enough, an election can change the person in the Oval Office without erasing the relationships formed inside the Tomb.
