Did Hitler Die in the Bunker or Escape to Argentina?

On 30 April 1945, Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun were inside the command bunker beneath the German Chancellery in Berlin. Soviet troops were closing in. Hitler had said he would not be captured. He and Eva entered a private room, and the staff heard a gunshot. They later said Hitler was found on a sofa, Eva had taken poison, and both bodies were carried into the garden, soaked in petrol, and burned.

That is the official story. Yet during the first weeks after the war, the Allied governments had no intact body to show the public. The Soviet Union controlled the jaw and bone fragments, changed its public statements, and in June announced that Hitler’s remains had not been found and that he might still be alive. At the same time, the FBI received reports of a man resembling Hitler in Argentina, while two real German submarines appeared at Mar del Plata after the European war had ended.
