Hessdalen: Those Spheres of Light Are the Trace of an Unknown Physics Hidden Right in Front of Us

Between 1981 and 1985, people in Norway's Hessdalen Valley saw strange lights as often as 20 times a week. The lights hung low over the valley as points or spheres, moved slowly, changed color, and vanished. This is not one edited video pulled off the internet. In 1984, a field team worked for 18 days straight and recorded 53 phenomena with cameras, radar, magnetometers, infrared viewers, Geiger counters, lasers, and seismographs.

Project Hessdalen exists to record the phenomenon with instruments. In 1998 the team installed the Blue Box, an automated system that detects and logs anomalies by itself. Cameras and sensors still run from one fixed location, and the images, reports, and data are public for anyone to study. A record that long on its own knocks down the easy talk of "mass hallucination" or "UFO gossip": gossip does not repeat itself in front of seven kinds of measuring gear for decades.
