Denver Airport: Tunnels, Walls and the Rumour of an Elite Shelter

In September 1989, Denver began building a new airport on the open plains northeast of the city. When Denver International Airport opened in 1995, it was not only terminals, runways and an underground train. Beneath the ground were baggage tunnels, train tunnels and technical spaces that ordinary passengers never entered. That darkness has fed a story for more than thirty years: the airport was not built only for aircraft. It was built as an entrance to a shelter for people who know a major crisis is coming.
