For several days, radar operators aboard the USS Princeton reported unknown targets appearing high above the ocean and then dropping rapidly toward the surface. On November 14, two F/A-18 fighters were sent to investigate. Pilots David Fravor and Alex Dietrich saw a white object about the size of a small aircraft. It had no visible wings, tail, windows, or exhaust. It hovered over disturbed white water, moved at high speed, and disappeared. Its shape gave it the nickname “Tic Tac.”
