Kecksburg 1965: The Bell-Shaped Object, the Military Convoy, and the Empty Files

On the afternoon of 9 December 1965, a blue light crossed the sky over the eastern United States and Canada. People in several states saw the fireball at the same time. In Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, residents said the object fell into woods near the village. They described a bronze-coloured metal body shaped like an acorn or bell, larger than a car and partly buried in the ground.

Less than an hour later, soldiers and police sealed the area. Witnesses described military trucks and jeeps entering the woods and leaving with something under a tarp. A local radio station received calls while reporter John Murphy tried to take photographs. The next day, the story was reduced to a “meteor”, then to “nothing fell at Kecksburg”.
