Ötzi: The Frozen Curse and the Deaths Around a 5,300-Year-Old Mummy

On 19 September 1991, German hikers Erika and Helmut Simon saw part of a body sticking out of the ice on Tisenjoch Pass in the Ötztal Alps, near the border between Austria and Italy. They thought it was a climber who had recently died. When rescuers arrived, they realised the body had been in the ice for thousands of years. The man was named Ötzi after the mountains where he was found and was dated to about 5,300 years ago.
