ANCIENT ORIGINS

The Giza Pyramid Was Not Just a King's Tomb. It May Have Been a Power Plant

Schoolbooks call the Great Pyramid of Giza the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu, yet the largest building at Giza is almost empty of writing and holds no mummy like Tutankhamun's tomb. This article reads the structure as a machine that drew energy from earth, water, stone, and sky, one that later ages gave the wrong name.

Schoolbooks call the Great Pyramid of Giza the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu, built about 4,500 years ago with stone hauled from distant quarries. Set against the standard of an Egyptian burial, Giza is strangely empty. Tutankhamun's tomb held inscriptions, grave goods, the king's name, and a mummy. The largest building at Giza holds almost nothing, and no inscription inside names Khufu as its occupant. The question is harder to dodge than it looks: is this a king's tomb, or a machine that later ages gave the wrong name?
