THE MONEY GAME

Gold Prices Can Be Bent by Orders That Were Never Meant to Trade

On the COMEX screen, a large sell order appears beside the gold price. Anyone watching the order book sees supply building. Automated systems read the pressure and begin selling. Seconds later, the large order disappears before it is filled. The person who placed it keeps a smaller buy order on the other side, waiting for the price to fall so the real order fills cheaply. No bar of gold has to leave a vault. The image of supply and demand is built, then erased.
